 Satara is located at a distance of 48 km from Panchgani, 54 km from Mahabaleshwar, 129 km from Pune. Satara is a city and district headquarters in Maharashtra.  It is situated near the confluence of the Krishna River, a tributary of the Venu River. 1.Kas plateau


It is one of the Places to Visit in Satara Maharashtra. Kas Plateau is located at a distance of 22 km west of Satara city. At an altitude of 1250 m above sea level, the plateau covers an area of about 10 sq. Km. The Kas Plateau is formed by volcanic activity, it has thin soil, which is why vegetation cannot grow there. Heavy rainfall in this area contributes to the region's unique flora and fauna. These unique ecological features make Kaas one of the biodiversity hotspots.

In October, the plateau is covered with a variety of wildflowers. There are 850 species of plants, vines, shrubs with 280 species of flowers on the plateau. To the west of the Kas Plateau is the Kas Lake, which supplies water to the city of Satara. Many tourists visit the lake, which is surrounded by dense jungle.

2. Pratapgad Fort

You must visit Pratapgarh Fort in Satara, one of the best places to visit in Satara. It was established 60 years ago by Shivaji, who built the Fort in 1656. Pratapgarh Fort is located very close to Mahabaleshwar, one of Maharashtra's most popular hill stations, which is why it hosts thousands of tourists every year.

3.Thoseghar waterfall


At a distance of 26 km from Satara, Theseghar Falls is a popular waterfall located in Thegar village of Satara district of Maharashtra. It is one of the top waterfalls in Maharashtra and one of the most famous waterfalls in India. Thoseghar Falls is one of the most popular places to visit in Satara and one of the best monsoon tourist places near Mumbai. Thoseghar Waterfalls is a beautiful place located on the edge of the Konkan region. The waterfall falls through a series of cascades with a total height of about 500 metres. This waterfall can only be seen during the monsoon and falls into a deep valley.

4. Sajjangardh fort




In the 11th century, Shilahar Raja Bhoj built the fort in the valley of the river Urmodi on one of the ranges of the Shambhu Mahadev mountain range. In 1663, Shivaji Maharaj conquered this fort from Adilshah. Previously known as Parali, it was renamed Sajjangad.
There are many places to see on this fort-like Shriram Temple, Samarth's Samadhi, Samarth's Monastery, and Samarth Shishya Kalyan Swami's Temple objects Dhabacha Maruti Temple, Anglai Devi Temple, Ashokavan, Panyachi Tali, Ramghal etc. Mahaprasada facility is available. Bhaktaniwas are available for accommodation, with very reasonable rates, and well-equipped for tourists.

5. Vajrai falls


At a distance of 28 km from Satara, Vajrai Falls is a picturesque waterfall located near Kas Flower Valley in the Satara district. This is the most spectacular waterfall in Maharashtra and one of the top monsoon tourist places near Pune.

Vajrai Falls is a three-tiered waterfall falling from a height of 853 feet (260 m). In the monsoon, the water content is high because it is a perennial spring. People from different parts of Maharashtra come here in large numbers to witness the beautiful flow of the stream in monsoons.

There is a belief that the Urmodi River originates at Vajrai Falls. There are many small caves near Vajrai Falls which can be seen along with the falls. The waterfall is located near Bhambawali village in the Satara district.

6.  Ajinkyatara Fort


Ajinkyatara Fort is an ancient hill fort located on one of the seven hills surrounding Satara in the Sahyadri Mountains of Maharashtra. One of Maharashtra's most important historical sites, it is a popular tourist attraction in Satara. Rajgad is also known as Maratha's fourth capital after Rajgad, Raigad and Jinji.

Bhoj Raja II of the Shilahar dynasty built it in 1190. The wife of the first Adilshah, Chandbibi, was imprisoned. In 1673, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj conquered the fort as part of Swarajya. In that time, Shivaji Maharaj stayed in this fort for about two months due to a fever. Chhatrapati Shahu was crowned on this fort in 1708. In 1818, this fort came under the control of the British.
There are Hanuman Temple, Mangalai Temple and Prasar Bharati Tower on the fort. There are ruins of the palace and water lakes. From this fort, you can see Yavateshwar Plateau, Sajjangad, Jarandeshwar, Chandan-Vandan Fort, Kalyangad. From November to February is the best time to visit the fort.

7.  Natraj temple


In Maharashtra, you can find this temple, also known as Uttara Chidambaram Temple. It is a popular place for visitors to visit in Satara and is dedicated to Lord Natraj. Temple was established in May 1981.

The temple is a replica of Sri Nataraja Temple in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, on a much smaller scale; it was Sri Chandrasekhar Swamy's wish. Shri Uttara Chidambaram Temple was built by renowned sculpture artist Shri M.S. Ganapathi Chhapati and his brother Shri M. Mathyya Stapathy. Nataraja temple has four entrances on all four sides, similar to the Chidambaram temple in Tamil Nadu.

Apart from the main temple of Lord Nataraja, other temples located in the temple complex are Ganapati Temple, Hanuman Temple, Radha-Krishna Temple, Shivalinga Temple, Navagraha Temple, Adi Shankaracharya Temple, and Ayyappa Swamy Temple

8. Nandgiri fort

Kalyangad or Nandgiri Fort is a hill fort located on a river of Nandgiri hill in Mahadev range of Satara district of Maharashtra. Situated at an altitude of 3500 feet, Kalyanad is one of the strongest forts in the region and one of the top places to visit in Satara. Kalyangad Fort was built from 1178 AD to 1209 AD by King Bhoja-II of the Shilara dynasty.

The architecture of Nandgiri Fort is very beautiful.

There are two main entrances on the north and east side. At the entrance, there is a cave pond, which is about 30 meters deep. The carved pillars support the ceiling of the pond. There are idols of Lord Datta in one corner and Lord Parshnath on the right side of the cave. There are many ruined structures and water reservoirs in the fort and on the way to the fort.
It is an excellent place for trekking, hiking, and rock climbing. A steep trek up the hill leads to beautiful views.
