Hyderabad: City Of Pearls

Hyderabad is the capital of Telangana state of South India and the legal capital of Andhra Pradesh. It has a population of 6.7 million, which is the fourth most populous city in the country. The history of Hyderabad city is very old, here Qutb Shahi, Mughals and Nizams ruled here. There are many mosques, churches, temples and markets here. Fairs related to tourism are organized regularly in the city. Hyderabad is famous all over the world from the point of view of tourism, in 2011 it was included in the list of 41 places by 'New York Times' where it can be visited. It was ranked 19th. In 2013, it was awarded the third best city for travel by 'Lonely Planet'.

Hyderabad is called 'The City of Pearls', it is the only place in the world where big diamonds, emeralds and real pearls are found. It is a major centre of global trade. Lad Bazar, Begum Bazar, Sultan Bazar are among the famous markets of Hyderabad.

History of Hyderabad

Hyderabad was established in 1591 by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah. After this, the Qutb Shahi dynasty ruled there for about 100 years. In the 1700s, the Mughals made many attempts to capture Hyderabad. In 1724, the Mughal Viceroy Asif Jah I defeated the Qutb Shahi dynasty and started his dynasty in Hyderabad. He was declared the Nizam of Hyderabad. The Nizam became a princely state during the British Raj, with Hyderabad itself as its capital. Hyderabad State remained as the capital for 150 years, after independence in 1948 it was brought into the Indian Union and made the capital of Andhra Pradesh. 1. Charminar


The first place I remember to visit in Hyderabad is Charminar. Like the Taj Mahal in Agra, the Eiffel Tower in Paris is famous, and there is pride, similarly, the Charminar is the pride of Hyderabad. It is situated in the heart of the city, meaning in the middle. This monument was constructed by Mohammad Quli Qutb in 1591. The architecture of Charminar reflects the Sajiya style. The reason behind the construction of the memorial was a deadly epidemic, which was taking many lives during that period.  Here the four minarets are 48.7 meters long. There is also a masjid and 45 prayer spaces inside the Charminar. Being located in the heart of the city, it is a very crowded area. There is also a market around it, where products can be bought cheaply.

Entry fee: 20 INR for Indians and 250INR for Foreigners


2. Golconda fort


Golconda which means Shepherd's Hill. It was built in the 13th century during the Yadava dynasty but was later taken over by another Kakatiya dynasty, the Bahmani. After these dynasties, Qutb Shahi and Mughals have also ruled here. The effect of sound is very good in the fort, if you stand in the Fateh Darwaza and clap, then its sound will be heard in Bala Hisar, about 1 kilometre away. The royal palace and the beautiful wall are its main attractions. It is one of the strong forts of India.

Entry fee: 30 INR for Indians and 200 INR for Foreigners


3. Taj Falaknuma Palace


This beautiful palace is situated at a height, hence it was called Falaknuma, which means mirror of the sky. The palace was built by an Italian architect for the fifth Paigah Amir. Which was later won by the Nizam. The Nizam was very fond of art, he brought various types of sculptures, paintings, furniture from every corner of the world to this palace. There is a sound and light show in the evening, which tells the history of Golconda Fort. It is currently taken care of by the Taj Group and is being built as a heritage hotel.

4.Nehru zoological park


Spread over 300 acres in Bahadurpur, Hyderabad, there are more than 1500 animals in this park. It was established in the year 1959 and was inaugurated in 1963. There many animals like Lion, Royal Bengal Tiger, White Tiger, Rhinoceros, etc. Indian cobra, star tortoise, and big giant tortoise are also seen here. Elephant rides can also be done here. Apart from this, there is also a Lion Safari Park, a train for children and a natural history museum.

Entry fee: Rs 10 per person for children Rs 20 per person for adults Rs 1,500 for trucks for film shooting Rs 1,000 Car/Jeep


5. Husain Sagar lake


Husain Sagar Lake, located between the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, is the largest man-made lake in Asia. It was built by Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah in 1562. In the middle of the lake is the statue of Buddha, which is 16 meters high. The facility of boat Bihar is available in this lake. This lake also has water sports like cruise, skiing, parasailing, etc. There is more place to visit around this lake. It has NTR Garden, Sanjeeva Park, Lumbini Park, which all the elders can enjoy.

6. Birla Mandir


Birla Mandir is situated in the south end of Hussain Sagar in Kala Pahari. This beautiful temple is built with white marvel stones. The structure of this temple similar to that of South Indian and Aryan temples.  There is an idol of Lord Venkateshwara in the temple. This statue is a replica of the Tirumala Tirupati idol. Birla Science Museum is located near this temple.

Opening timing: open all day from  7:00 am to 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm

7. Salarjung museum


It was constructed in 1951. Objects are kept in this museum during the time of Salar Jung III. The museum is classified as Indian Art, European Art, Middle Eastern Art, Far Eastern Art, and a section for children. Antiques from different parts of the world are kept in this museum. Indian sculptures, bronze sculptures, Persian carpets, porcelain, jade carvings, wood carvings, etc. can be seen here.

Entry fee: Rs.20 for Indians and Rs.500 for Foreign Visitors


8. Mecca Masjid


Mecca Masjid was built around 400 years ago, during the time of Sultan Mohammad Qutb Shah. About 8 thousand labourers were engaged in the construction of this mosque, its construction took close to 80 years to complete. Mohammad Qutb Shah is known to have personally laid the foundation stone of this mosque.

9. Ramoji Film city


Its name is also included in the main attraction of Hyderabad. Ramoji City is the world's largest integrated film studio and theme park, spread over 1666 acres. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations and entertainment centres in Asia. Right now it has been included in the 'Guinness Book of World Records as the largest film studio in the world. It was opened in 1996, it is located on the Hyderabad to Vijayawada Highway, which takes 20 minutes to reach. There are many means of entertainment in this theme park, for which the whole day may fall short. Many films, TV serials are being shot here, which people also go here to see.

Opening timing: opening all day except Sunday 9 am to 6 pm

10. Shamirpet


In this man-made lake, you can see the captivating sixth of nature. This beautiful lake was built during the Nizam's time. There is also a deer park here as well as many types of birds, which are also found here. This is a very good place for a picnic, where there is a beautiful view of nature as well as good accommodation facilities. You can enjoy yourself here with your whole family.

Best time to visit Hyderabad

The period from October to March is very pleasant for Hyderabad tourism and the climate of Hyderabad is pleasant during this period.

How to get to Hyderabad

Hyderabad is one of the major cities in India, famous for its rich history of Nizams, high-tech cities, and Hyderabadi biryani. You can reach Hyderabad by choosing between road, rail, and air.

1. By plane:

As Hyderabad is a major city in India, it is connected to major cities in the country and abroad by air. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad is at a distance of 20 km from the city. There are regular flights to Hyderabad.

2. By train: 

There are three main railway stations in Hyderabad. Hyderabad Railway Station, Secunderabad Railway Station, and Kachiguda Railway Station. These three railway stations run daily trains to Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, Nagpur, Bengaluru, etc. The Secunderabad Duranto from Mumbai and Pune to Hyderabad. , Pune-Secunderabad Shatabdi, Hussainsagar, Humsafar, Hyderabad, Konark, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada express trains are famous and make your journey to Hyderabad pleasant.

 3. By bus: 

State Transport Board and private Volvo are available in abundance for Hyderabad from Maharashtra. Simple and air-conditioned Shivshahi buses ply daily for Hyderabad from Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Satara, Kolhapur, Solapur, Nagpur.


Hyderabadi Cuisine:

Hyderabad is world-famous for its unique food culture. Here you can taste Mughal, Persian, Iranian, Arabic, Turkish, Telugu culture. Tourists visiting Hyderabad do not go without tasting Hyderabadi Biryani, Hyderabadi Halim, and Iranian Tea. Available in all hotels but special local flavour is definitely found in the small hotel on the corner of the road.
